East Cumberland Lodge overlooking the beautiful Pugwash harbour, is a 74 bed Level I & Level II Nursing Home licensed by the Nova Scotia Department of Health. It is a registered Canadian charity operated by the Cumberland Senior Care Corporation and managed by a Board of Management, Administrator, and Department Directors.

East Cumberland Lodge is committed to offering a high quality service to our residents and families by providing dignity and compassion. Our aim is to assist residents to reach and maintain their optimum physical and psycho-social abilities to maximize their quality of life.

Our employees are educated, certified, and licensed in their area of expertise. A multidisciplinary team provides resident care and it is essential for all staff to act as resident advocate. We strive to create a holistic approach to resident needs in an environment as much like home as possible while adhering to fire, occupational health & safety, continuing care guidelines as set out by the province, and other regulations required for the safety of our residents, staff, and visitors.

Our minimal restraint philosophy supports our belief that all living involves risk, but the negative side affects of both physical and chemical restraints are greater than any perceived benefits.

If you or a family member are considering placement in a Home for Special Care, please come to our home for a visit. All final placements are coordinated through the Department of Health & Wellness Continuing Care (1-800-225-7225).

You are welcome to meet staff and residents and gain insight into the variety of programs and services offered by East Cumberland Lodge. Our employees will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

If you are interested in becoming part of the team at “the Lodge” please see the “Careers” page. We are always on the look-out for those key individuals who share our vision of dignity and respect for residents while working within a cohesive team approach.
